2-Week Dalmatian Coast Itinerary on a Chartered Yacht
With so many wonders of history and natural beauty, a Dalmatian Coast yacht cruise is definitely worth two weeks to be explored. From cities of historic grandeur, like Dubrovnik and Split, to virgin islands of lush vegetation and crystalline waters, such as Mljet, every stop is an experience of its own.
Day 1-3: Explore Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic
Having rightfully gained the title “Pearl of the Adriatic“, Dubrovnik is a great starting point for your private yacht cruise on the Dalmatian Coast. The majestic medieval walls and the wonderful coastal setting will give you a good idea of what the Croatian beauty is all about.
Strolling along the city walls and the picturesque old town is of course a must for every visitor. Let your eyes feast upon the endless view of the Adriatic Sea as you wander among historic buildings of unique architecture. Get a taste of Dubrovnik’s rich history with a visit to the Rector’s Palace, the Franciscan Monastery, and the magnificent Cathedral of the Assumption.
Once you’ve explored the city’s historic landmarks, it’s time to get to know Dubrovnik’s modern side. Stroll along Stradun, where you’ll find a number of cafes and restaurants. Taste the mouthwatering Dalmatian cuisine and sip a glass of the tasteful local wines. Don’t forget to hop on the cable car to admire the sunset on Srd Ηill!
Day 4: Unwind on Lokrum Island
At close distance from Dubrovnik and with stunning natural beauty, Lokrum is the best destination after the bustling city exploration. If you are looking for a true connection with nature, the island offers a variety of rocky beaches surrounded by verdant trees and emerald waters. But it doesn’t stop there! Lokrum offers a lot of activities too. Climb up Fort Royal, pay a visit to the Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary, explore the Game of Thrones museum, there’s so much to see and do!
Day 5-6: Discover the Elaphiti Islands
Again located very close to Dubrovnik, the Elaphiti Islands are not to be missed. Sailing the Elaphites Archipelago, you’ll notice that it consists of 13 little islands, of which only three are inhabited. All three of them, Koločep, Lopud and Šipan, feature fine sandy beaches, pristine nature, historic sites of great importance and the tastiest sea food you have ever tried.
For some moment of privacy during your Dalmatian Coast yacht cruise, sail to the uninhabited Elaphiti islands, where you’ll have the chance to enjoy the wild beauty of the Adriatic. As you sail, keep an eye out for the famous cliffside caves of the Elaphites Archipelago. Swimming into them is an experience out of this world.
Day 7: Lose yourself in the verdant beauty of Mljet
Being considered by many as the most beautiful island in the Adriatic, Mljet deserves its own spot in your Dalmatian Coast itinerary. The largest part of the island is covered by the Mljet National Park, a large area with lush forests, abundant flora and two serene saltwater lakes (Veliko and Malo Jezero) that create an idyllic atmosphere. After wondering through its unparalleled nature, visit the Roman Palace for a touch of history and feel like a Greek explorer while hiking to the Odysseus Cave.
Day 8-9: Discover why Korčula is called “Little Dubrovnik”
The island of Korčula combines everything you could ask from a Croatian island: beautiful beaches, lots of historic sites and amazing medieval architecture. Lose yourself in the winding streets of the old town, visit the place where Marco Polo is said to have been born or simply lie on the sandy beaches (Vaja, Pupnatska Luka and Banje are only some of them) and have a dive in their crystal waters while admiring the magnificent backdrop.
While in Korčula don’t forget to sail to the nearby islands where more stunning beaches will be waiting for you! Although small, the islands of Vrnik, Gubavac and Knezic have their own story to tell and are ideal for a day of total relaxation at the beach.
Day 10-11: Find your peace in Vis
If you are a beach lover, Vis is the place to be! It is not by chance that one of its beaches, Stivina Beach, has been awarded as one of the best European destinations. Apart from Zaglav Beach, which is sandy, most of the beaches here are pebbled, but the surrounding scenery is definitely rewarding as are their welcoming waters.
Vis is also renowned for its charming caves. From the natural wonder of the Blue Cave to the paradise-like atmosphere of the Green Cave, each one will gain a special spot in your heart.
Days 12-13: Unwind in the scenic town of Hvar
Vast lavender fields, lush vineyards and olive groves, scenic landscapes and vibrant nightlife. Could Hvar be missing from our Dalmatian Coast itinerary?
Begin your day by diving in the clear blue waters of Pokonji Dol, one of the most beautiful beaches in Hvar or if you’d like a more peaceful atmosphere on the beach, sail to Uvala Dubovica. Then, stroll around Stari Grad, the oldest town in Croatia, to admire its medieval architecture and grab a bite at the local restaurants. And, of course, a tour to the city’s stunning lavender fields is an absolute must!
If you are into water sports, you should definitely sail to the nearby Pakleni Islands. Palmizana Beach on Sveti Klement Island features a varied sea life that is ideal for snorkeling.
Days 14-15: Explore the historic city of Split
Home of one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites and the second-largest Croatian city, Split is a destination you cannot omit while having a Dalmatian Coast yacht cruise.
Wander around the Diocletian’s Palace and experience what happens when ancient history meets modern life while. Discover vibrant cafes and modern restaurants housed in ancient stone buildings as you walk in its maze-like streets. Visit well-preserved monuments such as the Cathedral of St. Domnius, the Peristil and the Temple of Jupiter to learn more about Split’s history. Then hike up Klis Fortress to admire the immense view of the Split valley.
While in Split you cannot miss the most photographed beach in Croatia! Zlatni Rat is not only a gorgeous white-pebbled beach with stunning surroundings, but also a popular windsurfing spot perfect for water sports afficionados!
